PB Cosmetology Education Centre was founded in 1960 by the husband and wife team of Peg and Bob Hogan, their initials still make up the company name. It flourished as a small school called PB Method of Hair Design teaching cosmetology and nails for over 25 years. Bob Hogan died in the 1970’s but Peg carried on, overseeing the teaching and the raising of four children. All four of their children graduated from PB and earned licenses as cosmetologists but moved on to other careers.
In the 1980’s Peg’s health began to fail and the younger Bob Hogan stepped in to help his mother update and enhance the school. Bob had used his cosmetology trade only for a few years to help him finance his college education. He had been working for years in the financial sector and eventually became partner and Executive Vice President in Clover Financial Corporation, a real estate investment-banking firm. Along with his daughter Colleen Hogan Connelly, a graduate student at St. Joseph’s University at the time, Bob brought the business back around. Colleen began running the school and got involved in all phases of the school. Together they recognized a tremendous need for a quality educational program in Cosmetology in this area of Southern New Jersey. They set out to pursue excellence and become the best school in this market.
In 1994, Bob and Colleen were invited to join the Pivot Point Member School Network. Pivot Point is known internationally as the finest in quality cosmetology training. Nicknamed the “Harvard” of beauty schools, Pivot Point boasts a membership of over 2,000 schools throughout the world and has produced thousands of successful cosmetologists, nail technicians, and aestheticians. By adapting the principles of the Bauhaus philosophy of art, Pivot Point allows each student to approach their life’s work as an artist. Because of this method, students are trained to create not to imitate. Please visit www.pivot-point.com for more information.
Today, the school operates as PB Cosmetology Education Centre and offers three basic programs and a graduate course for teaching. Students and graduates have the best of both worlds, a connection to the international community of cosmetologists through Pivot Point, and the long standing tradition of quality training by a local family business.
